5 Life Lessons from Beauty & the Beast

Little girl within me couldn’t contain the happiness and excitement as I watch my favorite Disney Princess movie come to life. It was such nostalgic moment.

Being young and innocent at the age of seven, I was only aware that I was watching a story about a prince and princess with magical talking furnitures. And as I witnessed the old classic come to real life on the big screen, I realized that we have learned a lot of life lessons from Beauty and the Beast that we carry with us in the real world, just like the ones below:

1. Inner Beauty > Outer Beauty

A great lesson from the Beast himself. True beauty comes from within; it’s about being kind to others and not only thinking about yourself.

2. Small Town, Big Dreams.

I’ve been through many times where I felt the place I’m currently in is too small for my big dreams, which is why I kept moving on forward. Sometimes our big dreams pull us out of our comfort zone and challenge us. It’s a great adventure as you learn along the way, but it’s even greater knowing that when you look back, you see the puzzles of your self-growth.

3. Don’t judge a book by its cover.

We have to admit, the Beast looks intimidating and scary – but once Belle took the time to get to know him, it was clear that his scruffy exterior was just a facade. In fact, he’s actually really kind and gentle. I guess everyone just needs a chance to show who they really are on the inside.

4. We all need a guiding light.

Yes, life can be scary and you tend to give up at times. The Beast had given up hope that they will be able to break the spell, but Lumiere’s light of hope kept shining for Beast. We all need a Lumiere in our life.

5. Be Yourself.

Belle is different from all the other maidens in their small provincial town. There’s nothing wrong with doing things your own way and without following the social norm these days. Embrace what makes you different, because it’s also what makes you special. This has to be the most important lesson for me. If you can overcome your owns flaws and insecurities, you can overcome anything.

What’s your life lesson from Beauty & the Beast?
